I’ve used washing machine cleaner before but now I can’t find anywhere that stocks it. I’ve been recommended dishwasher cleaning tablets but will they damage the machine?

I don’t think it would hurt anything. Just don’t put any clothes in there while your cleaning it. Good Luck!

I bought a washing machine cleaner in either Asda or Morrisons. It was a sachet of powder that you empty into the drum and then set the machine going on a 60 degree programme.
This was only in the last few months, by the way.

  3. notyou311 says:

No. Just run vinegar through the machine.

Never heard of washing machine cleaner. Dishwasher tablet will not dissolve all the way ….your dishwasher super heats the water.

Use 1 quart of white vinegar in your washer with hot water and your usual detergent….cleans it up like brand new !

  5. ask this dummy says:

On the program how clean is your house they recommend a bottle of vinegar a cheap solution to your problem.

  6. joybreaks says:

I agree with the third answer use vinegar it is a natural cleaner and you could use on your dishwasher too. And it is cheaper.

  7. Staci says:

Don’t put dishwasher cleaning tablets in there. It won’t damage it, but it won’t dissolve all the way.

The only worry I would have with the vinegar is the smell may get in your clothes when you wash them after cleaning the washing machine.

  8. Julie F says:

Do NOT use any dish washing tablets or cleansers in your washing maching.

    Try this instead:

Starting with an empty washing machine, run HOT water up to the highest washing level your washer offers. When the water is full and the washer begins agitating, add 3 cups of distilled white vinegar (2 cups of lemon juice can be substituted) and 1/2 cup of baking soda to the water. Allow the cycle to run almost completely, advancing it to ‘spin’ right as the water starts to drain. By doing this, the washer will spin and drain at the same time. Follow by wiping down the inner tub, removing any residue that has been loosened by the cleansing process. To remove all remaining residue, follow this with a complete COLD water cycle. Adjust your washer’s agitation to high (where you would place it for heavily soiled clothing). This technique should remedy any lingering soap scum or mineral deposits both in the drums of your washing machine and the hoses.

    Why Baking Soda and Vinegar?

Baking Soda :: Baking Soda lifts residue effectively from the inner tub of a washing machine to dissolve easily in the wash water, flushing out the pipes/hoses on the way. Because it is so very water soluble, it dissolves before its soft crystalline molecules can scratch or damage a surface. Baking Soda has the power to neutralize odors, instead of just covering them up. It deodorizes by bringing both acidic and basic odor molecules into a neutral state.

Vinegar :: Vinegar is mildly acidic in nature, which makes it ideal for cleaning. It has the ability to eliminate soap residue and build-up on any given surface while neutralizing odors.

Baking soda and vinegar neutralize odors and remove residue.

use vinegar and a dishwasher tab together

Why do you need to clean out your washing machine with a special cleaner? It will get cleaned out daily/weekly by using laudry detergent and/or bleach, when washing clothes. I wouldn’t use dishwasher tablets in the washer.

  11. Wanna Cookie says:

Dishwasher tablets won’t dissolve properly in a washing machine nor will it do any harm. I found this out thru experience when I accidentally put a dishwasher tablet in the laundry instead of a soap tablet.

Vinegar is very good for cleaning a washing machine as it helps break down the limescale and gets rid of any soap residue, also its enviromentally friendly. If you really must get a commercial cleaner for your machine, here’s a link for what you’re looking for.

Try with vinegar,or MILTON or any other kind of Sterilizing solution use to clean new born baby´s drinking bottle´s. I use this to clean mine . gives a really nice healthy smell to the machine & at the same time clean´s it

  13. politicallyyours says:

Use a combination of vinegar and baking soda. I don’t understand why you need to clean the washing machine (clothes washer) These are usually self cleaning.

And unlike other people on here are telling you, you’ll have to use some “elbow grease”. Don’t just run it through a cycle
