How much time do you spend cleaning your house?

I feel like I am constantly cleaning and yet I never get time to do any deep cleaning. I should say I spend alot of time straightening. My house always feels messy to me. How do you keep your house clean? I don’t have alot of clutter, but I have trouble getting my family to not just drop there stuff all over the kitchen counters etc. I am planning on making a list of chores that I need to do daily, weekly, monthly, etc.. I do shampoo my carpets twice a year, but I don’t think I’ve only cleaned the windows once in 6 years. How do you get it all done and how much time do you spend.

    Hi,

    I feel like you too!

I have 2 young children under the age of 2 so i hardly get any time to do any cleaning!

I give the children toys to amuse themselves whilst i get quick things done like the washing up and when they go to bed i clean like the clappers!!

Other than that i just try to keep things as tidy as possible and do the rest of the cleaning either at night or at the weekend whilst my partner looks after the kids.

Read a book about household management & efficiency & make your family SHARE chores. You’re not doing anybody a favor by picking up after him ; even people with full-time jobs have no right to drop & dump their stuff wherever they like. And clean windows are key! Then everybody will be able to SEE how messy things really are. Hire outside help, even a teenager odd-job if necessary. And get out of the house regularly. Remember, A. Lincoln freed the slaves already.

lol, you are NOT alone, i feel like i am cleaning cleaning cleaning, but all my family does is add to the mess. they just leave their garbage wherever they feel like it. so what i do is clean around during the week (like pick up after their garbage, and wash dishes, vacuum a little here and there, and then when the weekend comes i do major cleaning. First is tart in the kitchen, (dishes, clean stove top, counters, fridge, floor) then i move to the dining room and living room area, and i straighten up my couch, throw the blankets into the wash, vacuum the flloor, then i do the hallways (put away all shoes, mop the floors) then i vaccuum the stairs and the upstairs hallway, and so on. if you do this, soon you will be on top of thiings and ur house won’t feel as messy and dirty. just do little things around the house.

If your children are old enough to do household chores, then make a calendar of chores. have them do 2-3 chores each weekend. More if you like. If your children are too young to understand, then make it a game for them to pick up all their toys and put them in the right places. In fact, you can give a prize to the quickest/neatest room/cleaning job. If your children leave a lot of clutter, then tell them if they have something out for a certain amount of time, and you have already asked them to pick it up once, that you will throw it out. If you are still trying to make time to clean the windows, and other cleaning, you can use the time my past recommendations have made for you.

    GOOD LUCK!!

I spend about 15 to 30 minutes each day cleaning. Like Flylady says, baby steps. I do a little bit each day, and that’s it. At our house we also do what we call a “Community Clean.” About 10 minutes before it’s time to get ready for bed, we all get together (I have four kids ages 6 to 14) and pick up AND put away our things that are in the common areas of the house (i.e. living/dining room, kitchen, family room, etc.). I try to make it fun, playing “I Spy” (my kids love to spy my stuff) or “Who can pick up the fastest?”, or “Who has the fewest items to pick up?” or “Who has the most items to pick up?” The winner gets to pick a bedtime snack for everyone. It’s been amazing to see my kids begin to put their things away BEFORE “Community Clean” time. They aren’t perfect, but then, neither am I. But I go to bed knowing those areas are picked up, and I wake up knowing those areas are picked up. It’s brought a sense of peace to me and to my kids. Then, when I do my 15 minutes, I can wash a couple of windows, or get the cobwebs in the corners, or dust the tops of doorframes without feeling like I have to spend all my time “tidying”. Cleaning can consume me, if I let it. But I want to do other things, too. So, I have committed to a little bit every day. I know my house isn’t perfect, but I also know I’ve done something to bless myself and my family.

I have come to the realization that as long as my children are at home I probably will not ever be satisfied with the cleanliness of my home, but on the flip side I still strive. Daily I make a list, whether it be mentally or on paper, what needs to be done NOW. I do that, then if time permits, I go by my flylady routine. I have been a member for over a year and I am still struggling with the clutter. At least twice a week we do fly boogie, where we throw away 27 items or put them in a designated place for a garage sale. Don’t get discouraged, remember your not alone. I hope you have a great day.
