How did people clean their suits and other fine tailored clothes in the olden days with no dry cleaning?

Like back in the 1800s and such when distuinguished gentlemen and women would wear fancy clothes, suits, dresses, etc. How did they clean their garments without any modern-day dry cleaning services? Maybe it’s something we can do at home to skip the expensive dry cleaner costs?

For jackets and coats, they had the butlers and maid BRUSH them. Then they hung them up outside to air them out.

lighter fuel was sprayed and after a while brush was applied with a strong hand to remove all the dust or dirt etc

Clothes were sometimes rubbed with Fuller’s Earth (a type of dry clay) to absorb dirt and odors before brushing. Also, steam is a remarkably effective clothes cleaner.

I think they had servants brush then air coats and suits. Washable clothing was done on the washboards. And clothes were not cleaned as often as today.
