Megan V asked:

I am planning to start using a house cleaning service. The woman is a sole proprietor who is licensed and insured. I want to have an agreement in writing.

Where could I find a sample house cleaning service contract? Do you have one you could send me?

I have had a number of cleaners through the years, and most of my friends use a cleaner either weekly or often. I have never heard of a contract. Basically, you lay out what you want to have done weekly or bi-weekly. If you are having someone come in weekly the price should be a bit less per visit than bi-weekly or monthly, the logic being that if the house is being cleaned more often there is less to do each time.

But back to the point, you lay out what you want done, if it is not done to your satisfaction you let her know what was done incorrectly. I give cleaners 3 chances and then I thank them but let them know that their services are no longer required. And get a new cleaner, I have had to do this maybe twice in 15 years.

But the key thing is to make sure it is clear what you expect to have done each visit, make a list if you feel strongly about it.

I have been cleaning houses for 10 years and no one has ever asked for a contract per se but after the 1st cleaning I write up a “service plan” that lists what is to be done and how often(ie-sheets changed every other week , blinds & interior windows done once a month , ect.).I have the customer sign it and go from there.I’ve never had any issues yet.If you google “how to start a house cleaning business” there are sample contracts.
